I've always had good performance with Plantronics. I do have the wireless headset but it sometimes cuts out so I prefer to use the wired headset if I'm not going to be roaming around or if the conversation is being recorded. If I'm making an audio recording for a video or product, I use an Audio Technica AT2020 microphone.

I haven't had any issues with mine cutting out at all. Unless I walk past the refrigerator, or walk out of range - LOL.

I ordered the Plantronics set. They came today so will be trying them out tomorrow.

My verdict is in and I like the Plantronics headphones. There is a very slight hum in the background when listening, but barely noticeable. The sound in from the microphone is crystal clear--has a great sound. I didn't realize how bad the other was. And the freedom of the wireless is nice. It's kind of like when I got my first smartphone. I didn't know what I was missing, but was I got one, I can't imagine going back. Same here. It would be hard to imagine going back to a wired version of the headphones.

Next up, I'm wanting recommendations on HD camcorders, so I'm going to start a thread on that.

The hum... I would check into that. It may be that the volume is up too loud. I assume it's on everything you listen to - not just one thing? Definitely research it. I don't get a hum with mine!

I've been using Plantronics headsets since 2002. I went wireless back in 2008 and what I love more than anything is that I can use the same Plantronics bluetooth headset with my computer and my mobile smart phone - that is a huge benefit. I use Skype for lengthy business calls every day and have rarely had an issue with power even though I am on the phone a lot every day.

I originally had the Plantronics 520 which was $99 when I bought it - so small, comfortable, sound was excellent, I broke the ear-hook on that one when I was travelling but that was because I had it stuffed in a bag with other stuff. I replaced it with a Plantronics Voyager Pro $99 which has a larger more sturdy ear piece, but have since bought two extra 520's (because they're great and now down to $29 a piece) one for the car and one as a back up - they all 'pair' using the same transmitter and it's easy to keep all powered up.
