I now have my site somewhat back up and running, now I would like to backup the info. What is the best way to go about this? Do I use a plugin or is there other ways to backup.

Is there info where different files are stored in wp folders. I have written some posts/articles before the site went down and I can't find them. I know wp is php code but the file names don't seem to be what they say they are, or I can't find things. Also what php file do I look at to change the nav bar titles/add titles. Should I buy Genesis Framework and the lifestyle theme to do the php coding so I can get the site more I want it to be?
WordPress is essentially in two parts: your *files* and your *data*. Files are your theme, any plugins, pictures you've uploaded through the media uploader, etc. Your data is the post/page content itself, your user name, password, information about what theme is active, and all that sort of stuff.
To do a complete backup of your site, you have to capture both the files and the data. All the files you want to back up are in a folder called wp-content. You might also want to back up your wp-config.php file. All the other files can be easily replaced, so they don't really need to be backed up.
To back up your data, you have to log into your hosting account and find your database. If your host uses cPanel, you can back up the whole thing via phpMyAdmin (using the "export" function) or just by clicking the backups icon in cPanel, then clicking the link to the database you're trying to backup - it will automatically download to your computer.
There are plugins that will do this for you (Backup Buddy is probably the best) but you still need to understand where and how the information is stored so you can configure the plugins correctly.
