Default Getting comfortable with being uncomfortable

    ... that's the big trick.

Earlier today, I mentioned in the Clicknewz Elite Forum, that I was hesitant about having the word mentor in my domain name.

So then I was thinking out loud about all the things that come up for me when I hear the word "mentor" to see if I might understand the "hesitation" about using the word.

What I came up with was this:

I believe a mentor is someone who has done it or who is doing it and can guide individuals around the pitfalls, they know what's ahead. They know the different stuck places because they've experienced many, if not most of them personally.

A coach is someone who can guide you, not because they've done it, but because they watch carefully,
learn and remain observant to the varying nuances of doing it and can help be a mirror for you to help correct your form and bring out your best.

Both a mentor and a coach invest their time and energy into knowing and learning, but they approach the subject area from different angles and perspectives.

Based on where I am today, I fit the definition of a coach, ergo my hesitation with having the word mentor in my domain name.

Yet, I realize based on my own ideas about the differences between the two, I want to have the experience. That's what will move me into being comfortable calling myself a mentor.

Of course, once there, I'm sure some new to way to stretch my comfort zone will show up. I have no problem with that. That's the beauty of getting comfortable with being uncomfortable, you're always growing your comfort zone.

I thought I'd share my mental thought process with you ask what you're currently taking action on even though it's uncomfortable?

If you're not taking action, I'd like to challenge you to take action that stretches your comfort zone. Then take another one and another.

I'd love to know what action you've taken or what action you'll challenge yourself to take. Hit reply and share.

And remember, you don't have to step out of your comfort zone, instead, find the edges and puuuush.

Constantly pushig myself out of my comfort zone! Everythin I do does it, from sending out weekly ezines, to doing regular videos, to offering coaching, to setting up a memberhsip site (what I'm doing now), everything makes us question our value!

Are we good enough to do it? Who are 'we' to offer this or that or do this or that! But the only way to get the ship sailing is to take the risks and put yourself out there. I've learnt to let go of perfectionism and just get in there and do things despite how fearful I am of the results!

I had a freind a while back going through training for the police force and he would always say to me 'you've got to get uncomfortable in order to get comfortable'. It's so true, whether it's weight loss, improving your finances, staring a business or whatever. We always have to get more uncomfortable before we can get comfortable!

I think it's called getting your big girl panties on...

Thanks for both of your thoughts.

Hi Minna - I have been 'uncomfortable' for the past 18 months

My main strengths are people skills, communication, competitive, results driven....nowhere there have you seen technical expertise, follow through, systematic, detail orientated - lol I'm not giving any more of my secrets away..

18 months ago I couldn't set my video recorder, I don't read manuals..zzzzz - you get my drift. So my uncomfortable-ness has been about getting to grips with building a website, understanding auto-responders, creating a product, creating videos. Blah blah.

However, I have never been afraid of making a fool of myself (happens often), I will try anything once (maybe I'll give the S & M a miss), I ask lots of questions and am a firm believe of failing fast! The quicker you do something, review what happened, try again and learn from it, the quicker you get to where you want to go.

So, I am now rambling...I have decided that I am a masochist because I don't usually take the easy option but I do like to be challenged and maybe that is what being uncomfortable is about for me. putting my big girl panties on? 'Scuse me - I wear a thong.. (p'raps that's why I'm 'uncomfortable' - lol)
