Default Quick Question if I may about product promotion and blogging

Hi all. I haven't been around for awhile but I am going to try to come back more frequently. I just had a question. I am getting back into blogging and promoting affiliate products. I was just wondering if you should promote something with every post or one every three, etc. What works for you? Also, do you mix it up with banners and text links in your post or just one or the other?

Also, I am getting about 2000-2400 visitors a day now on my main blog but am not making much in the way of affiliate income. I know I probably should be because that sounds like a pretty good number of visitors to me. I guess that is why I am trying to figure out how often to promote products and set up some sort of strategy. Any tips would help.

    thanks all!

I would not post affiliate offers in every post. Unless of course you are a review blog, it just really depends.

I do mix things up but mostly use text links over banners/buttons. But sometimes I do add them. A lot of the coupon affiliates require use of buttons too but you just have to try different things.

thanks Angie. I will try to mix it up. Finding products to promote isn't always so easy sometimes either. I guess it is a work in progress.

Hi Melanie. I haven't been around much lately but I do some affiliate marketing too.

That's a fair number of visitors there. As long as they are in your targeted audience you should be earning some good coin from that. As far as how many times you are promoting products, that is a personal decision for you, but there should always be a call to action of some type with every post, that is, there should be a purpose for every article you put up.

Have you been building your lists in your posts? Usually you will get better buying response from people on your email lists. I don't mean to be nosy but with 2000-2400 visitors daily, you should start to see a profit.

What niche are you writing about? Is it a tightly focused micro niche or are you writing about a general topic? Do you have a link to your blog so we can have a look? I don't see anything in your signature.

Thank you Al for your advice. My blog is about small business tips and advice. It is at http://melaniebremner.com It is more of a general blog encompassing everything I have learned about internet marketing and business over the last 8 years as a VA and past Administrative Assistant.

Hi Melanie. Nice blog. Clean and lots of white space...easy on the eyes.

One thing that I noticed is that your posts are fairly general and encompass a lot of territory, instead of nailing down a specific niche market.

If you don't mind me asking, do you write about your experiences as a VA at all? With your experience in that topic, you could easily interest an audience that are trying to start up a second or supplemental income, and help them get started with all the tools and training you know about and have used extensively.

I have found (after several failure websites) that starting out, general information is nice to read, but usually does not pay well. Targeted audiences however, will pay for specific targeted "how to" information that will help them step by step with their goals. They actively search out direct strategy content.

The big sites can diversify their subject matter because they have huge followings, and once you grow your business, you could too. But in order to break in, it is simply easier to pick a smaller niche and go deep into it, rather than wide generalities.

Sorry to go on and on here. Please do not take this as gospel, there are many people on this site that are much more successful than I, and I am in the thick of it just like yourself...

Al, thank you very much for all you have said. I appreciate it a lot! I was thinking of narrowing down, and I do have a lot of tutorial type posts on the site. It is funny that I never really thought of targeting want to be VAs or work at home folks who would be interested in learning more about making money being a service provider. Now you have me thinking....
Do you think it is too late to restructure this site to be that way, and if so, not sure what tagline I should use instead then. Any ideas?

Hi Melanie. I see that you have made some revisions to your titles.

People really need to find something that they can make money at. The economy is still tough on folks and many are looking to make money online with their computers.

It is never too late for revisions...you could even revise some of your older posts with new keywords, and you can always throw out the odd post on business in general if you want, but as long as your major focus is on how your audience can make money online as A service provider, how to find success, how to overcome the specific challenges that come with the territory, you can tell them how to find work, how to be effective in their own VA business, proper tools to use for the work, it is so open for you.

There are so many ways you can go. I didn't find many searches for VA's or Virtual Assistants specifically, but there are millions of searches for service businesses both global and local. Most people are not even aware that they could make money as a VA, nor even know the position exists...

As far as keywords research and your tag line, you could use - Making Money Online With Your Own Service Business under your title Tips For The Virtual Assistant. Or reverse them with Make Money Online With Your Own Service business with Tips For The Virtual Assistant as your tagline... How To Succeed As A VA, etc.

As far as products to promote, you already know everything they would need to have, to be able to do what you did. For your own product, you could even start your own membership site as support for new VAs. Just saying...

Maybe someone can chime in with another set of eyes and help us out here...it's a pretty good discussion.
