Default How to get Website Traffic ?

Hi all. Asked in the brainstorm session but thought maybe it was too off topic. I was looking for some good ideas or learning products for driving traffic to a new site. Yes I am still very green on this topic so even the most basic suggestions may be helpful to me.

I have used PPC, twitter, facebook but it never seems to really drive much traffic so I was wondering if I could get some suggestions from the group.

    Thanks!

    Hi Deirdre- Great topic!

My recommendations for getting website traffic are:

    • Article Marketing more
    • Forum Marketing more
    • Publish short reports & start an affiliate program more
    • Social Networking (twitter/facebook/etc) more
    • Blog Commenting
    • Guest Blogging
    • Press Releases
    • SEO - search engine optimization more

If you have specific questions about any of these methods, you or anyone reading along, just ask - and we'll do individual posts to this thread with more detailed information.

    Hi Deirdre:

I'm a huge proponent of article marketing. Writing articles allows you to present yourself as an expert in your field. This not only gives you instant credibility, it also gives you a leg up on your competition.

Let me explain: When someone reads an informative, value-packed article written by you, at the end of the article, they click on the link in your resource box which takes them to your website or a page of your choosing.

The prospect is much more relaxed and less apprehensive when she arrives at your website, because she arrived via an informative article as opposed to an advertisement. And since she just read your article, she feels as if she knows you and is much more likely to purchase whatever it is that you're selling.

Another reason I like article marketing so much is because it allows you to target your audience. That's because people generally read information that focuses on the subject matter that they're interested in. For example, pet owners enjoy reading information related to their pets. Car enthusiasts enjoy reading information about cars, and so on and so forth.

That means readers of your articles are already targeted - because they wouldn't be reading your article if they weren't interested in the topic at hand. And if what you're selling is related to the subject matter of the article (which it should be), you have a better than average chance of making the sale.

Articles are viral. That means if people find value in what you write, they will pass along your articles to others voluntarily. I can't even count the number of times friends and colleagues of mine have e-mailed articles to me they thought I might be interested in reading, and vice versa.

If your article is well-written and contains valuable information, it could be passed along and seen by thousands of potential prospects.

Now I realize not everyone is capable of writing articles. However, you can still participate in article marketing, because there are services that will write articles for you affordably and allow you to claim ownership of those articles. For example, ArticlesBase has an article writing service.

I don't know about you, Lynn, but I was somewhat surprised at the minimal response this thread has generated. Because of the nature of the subject, I expected this thread to be on fire.

That's actually a great point, Jeffery! One many of us don't think about, or may take for granted. People really do click on interesting, well-written sig files. I certainly do.

Thanks for the great advice everyone! David I believe the reason the response is so lite is because I am already on page two of the forum page. This info will get me started though. I think I will do some research on all of the topics provided here and then create a post to help my readers as well.

    Thanks again!

    Hi Deirdre

For me, the three things that have been working best are: social media (especially Twitter), commenting on related blogs and forums, and daily blogging (offering updated content can really help increase repeat visits).

Article Marketing is also very beneficial and should yield long-term results for you.

If you are interested, I am currently running a 90-Day Content Marketing Challenge on my blog, and just published traffic results after the first 30 days. Here is the link: http://www.webcopyresults.com/2009/1...ember-results/

    Good luck!

I agree - I mentioned Twitter in my reply above. It has consistently been one of my top referrers for new unique visitors for more than a year now.

    Welcome Sorayathomas

iPhone & Blackberry apps are hot right now. Not something I've tried myself - yet, but I have my son (a programmer) learning app development as we speak.

This may make for a good side topic if you'd like to start a new thread?
