How to get Website Traffic ?

Hi all. Asked in the brainstorm session but thought maybe it was too off topic. I was looking for some good ideas or learning products for driving traffic to a new site. Yes I am still very green on this topic so even the most basic suggestions may be helpful to me.

I have used PPC, twitter, facebook but it never seems to really drive much traffic so I was wondering if I could get some suggestions from the group.

• Social Networking (twitter/facebook/etc) more
• Blog Commenting
• Guest Blogging
• Press Releases
• SEO - search engine optimization more

I'm a huge proponent of article marketing. Writing articles allows you to present yourself as an expert in your field. This not only gives you instant credibility, it also gives you a leg up on your competition.

Let me explain: When someone reads an informative, value-packed article written by you, at the end of the article, they click on the link in your resource box which takes them to your website or a page of your choosing.

The prospect is much more relaxed and less apprehensive when she arrives at your website, because she arrived via an informative article as opposed to an advertisement. And since she just read your article, she feels as if she knows you and is much more likely to purchase whatever it is that you're selling.

Another reason I like article marketing so much is because it allows you to target your audience. That's because people generally read information that focuses on the subject matter that they're interested in. For example, pet owners enjoy reading information related to their pets. Car enthusiasts enjoy reading information about cars, and so on and so forth.

That means readers of your articles are already targeted - because they wouldn't be reading your article if they weren't interested in the topic at hand. And if what you're selling is related to the subject matter of the article (which it should be), you have a better than average chance of making the sale.

Articles are viral. That means if people find value in what you write, they will pass along your articles to others voluntarily. I can't even count the number of times friends and colleagues of mine have e-mailed articles to me they thought I might be interested in reading, and vice versa.

If your article is well-written and contains valuable information, it could be passed along and seen by thousands of potential prospects.

Now I realize not everyone is capable of writing articles. However, you can still participate in article marketing, because there are services that will write articles for you affordably and allow you to claim ownership of those articles. For example, ArticlesBase has an article writing service.

That's actually a great point, Jeffery! One many of us don't think about, or may take for granted. People really do click on interesting, well-written sig files. I certainly do.

Thanks for the great advice everyone! David I believe the reason the response is so lite is because I am already on page two of the forum page. This info will get me started though. I think I will do some research on all of the topics provided here and then create a post to help my readers as well.

For me, the three things that have been working best are: social media (especially Twitter), commenting on related blogs and forums, and daily blogging (offering updated content can really help increase repeat visits).

Article Marketing is also very beneficial and should yield long-term results for you.

The ideal answer to this will make an article. I suggest you read as much as you can about creating website traffic. Research the may ways to get traffic like advertising and SEO. Almost all the methods are discussed here so there's not much for me to say. I will say this, social media are good to draw traffic because it is highly effective, it is good if people talk about your site and get traffic for you. So do not ignore it.

Best way to get going is to write articles and publish it on word press. The trick is to make sure that it is SEO friendly not too many keywords and not too few either. Make sure you do a thorough Keyword Research first. Just my thoughts

I just found out something that is very important and some thing that is overlooked. Make sure that you have your settings right with Wordpress as I found out that on some of my sites that this was not the case. This may well affect traffic to the site

I do have a website actually more then one - and have over 3000 facebook members and over 15000 in my twitter account.

I also post in Forums and have started doing posts on my blog and have done some articles.

I have my first niche site going and have been trying to post on twitter and facebook about the topic of the site, but I am not sure what strategy is best. I don't have info products or courses just an affiliate site featuring physical products. I have seen people post direct links to products, anecdotes about the products and personal stories in their social media posts. So what is a good strategy for using a twitter account to drive traffic to a niche site featuring products?

Article writing is something I'm not really good at myself. I built a couple of adsense based sites, one of which I had to take down because representatives from the company e-mailed me and told me to take down the site and cease any use of the domain because I was violating their trademark policies by having the name "porter cable" in the domain. But for that site along with another site that I still have up for the time being, I had all the articles written for me except for the one on the homepage of the site I currently have up. That one I wrote myself, but it sure wasn't easy writing that article. Took me over two hours to write it.

Now a days, it's illegal to use google adwords for affiliate marketing sites, so be really careful.

SEM and SEO are the biggest ways to gain traffic for your website. And SEM is gaining importance like never before with Twitter including Brand pages and Facebook's new Timeline feature. Pinterest is also creating waves everywhere and pretty sure it will be on the top in coming days. :)

I recommend Contextual backlinks. But your overall SEO strategy needs to be comprehensive (social bookmarking, article marketing, guest blogging, commenting, web 2.0 pages.
