31GYL Day 18: Traffic From Social Q&A Sites

It’s Day 18 in the Growing Your List challenge, and we’re focusing on Content Marketing Strategies. Today's topic is about using popular Social Q&A sites to drive targeted traffic back to your squeeze page so you can grow your email list...

"Using Social Q&A Sites is not only a way to get backlinks and drive traffic to your site, it's also a great way to establish yourself as an expert in your niche. The more you post, the more traffic you can expect. And the more traffic you get, the bigger (and faster) your mailing list will grow!"

One of the more popular Social Q&A websites is Yahoo! Answers. They allow you to cite a source when you respond to a question, which is a great opportunity to include a link back to one of your articles or blog posts on the same topic.

The key is to provide thorough and thoughtful responses, not just drop links. And you want to include your link as the "source" and perhaps invite them to your site conversationally. Anything more than that is going to be seen as spam, and may very well get you banned from the site.

Since your goal is to establish yourself as a trusted expert, you want to invest the time to respond professionally. You should also complete your profile with a photo and bio so that users can check you out and see that you're a credible user.

Tip: These Social Q&A sites are also great for market research. Just like keyword research, these sites will show you what your target market is struggling with, and what they most want to know. You can use great questions you find as content-starters for your blog posts and articles. 😉

You can also return to the question and thank them for the inspiration, answer the question, and link to the content you wrote in response...

Your Task For Today:

Go to Yahoo! Answers and find the category for your niche. Browse the most recent questions, or the unanswered questions, and see how you can contribute.

These are very helpful techniques. But one obstacle is that you are not allowed to post links to many of such sites !

    • It's a good idea to seek out the ones that *do* allow you to cite a source. And of those that don't, see if you can create a detailed profile that includes a bio and hyperlink. 🙂

These sites are a great source of blog post ideas also. Linkedin Answers is also a place to answer questions.

    • Carl Coddington says

Also, Linkedin Answers isn't as crazy with the ban hammer. There are so many BlackHatters on Yahoo Answers that purposely report any links other than there own.

  3. interesting that you come up with Q&A sites today. Just the day before yesterday I registered for two sites and began looking for questions related to my niche.
The market research point you mention is a real nugget. Will dig there for a new site I have in development.

  4. I've been answering some questions on Answers!yahoo. But I've never thought that it's that important for marketing. Thank you for sharing this.

    • Yeah, me too. I thought Yahoo! Answers are just for queries. Though I've observed that there are those who answer professionally and with links to their sites, I didn't actually know it's a marketing strategy.

  5. Whenever I get SEO project,my client often me how Yahoo Q/N you will provide per week.It demand of the market.

  6. Yahoo Q/A is very productive for Yahoo Search Engine Optimization.People normally ignore this aspect of optimization.
