Tags Are Cool and Technorati Rocks!

Just a few days ago I was trying to wrap my head around tags. In fact, I posted a question about that over at the Warrior Forum. I understood the basics, thanks to Technorati's explanation on tags... but was looking for insider's tips and what kind of results to expect from tagging - that sort of thing.

The Warriors gave me some good tips, which sent me off testing things for myself. And a big thanks to Paul Short for showing me how to add tags to my WordPress posts easily.

I have to say, now that I "get it", this whole tagging business is FUN!

Here's a cool little tip for ya:

Once you publish your post, check out the hyperlinked tags at the bottom. Click on each one and you will see a listing at Technorati of posts on other blogs that are also tagged for that particular word. Check those out, and if they are interesting and related... leave a comment! When you are given the option to put in your URL, link back to your individual blog post on the same topic (not your "home page").

I included this tip in an article I posted over at V7N titled Social Networking in the Blogosphere. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the article as a whole.

The tags are actually a great resource for related information, for both yourself and your readers. I've had the greatest fun checking out posts on topics that I am blogging about myself, and doing a bit of networking with those bloggers.

So yeah, I say Technorati rocks! πŸ˜€ Way cool!

  1. Very good tip you give about linking back to the same tag and not just to the home page!

And you are right, leaving a comment is really nice input - thanks for yours - plus it works, of course I'm going to checkout the site of the person commenting πŸ˜‰

  2. Hi Marlyse - it's great to see you here! I never would have found your blog without the tags, and I'm so glad I did - I had the greatest laugh over your Humor post!!

I added your blog to my FeedDemon and look forward to reading along πŸ˜‰

    Best,
    Lynn

  3. You're welcome!

... and welcome to ClickNewz! Glad to have you here - I look forward to checking out your blog πŸ˜‰

  4. Good tip, Lynn. I've been using tags for a very long time (in the form of Drupal's taxonomy). Within my sites it helps people find related posts. Within technorati it helps people find related posts across sites. The only problem is that technorati seems to have lost a lot of cred in the last 6 months or so. Their index had fallen way behind. They're only now catching up. I'm not getting much traffic from them at the moment but I hope that'll pick up this year. At the very least they need to work more to keep the splogs out.

  5. Hey, thanks for the linkage Lynn!

  6. That makes so much sense to link to a relevant post. I have always just had the main page of my site in listed.

    Thanks for the tip =)

  7. You're welcome, Paul - Thanks for the help with Tags!! πŸ˜€

  8. Hi Veridicus & Welcome πŸ˜‰

I hate to hear that. Being so new to the scene I am not aware of changes like that, but it's too bad considering what a great resource Technorati is.

Are there others? I'm aware of Boardtracker.com for Forums, but not other sites like Technorati...

  9. Hey Lynn,
I know there is IceRocket which also uses tags to help index blogs, though I haven't heard much about it in recent times (i.e. the last 6 months or so).

  10. I just heard rumor that IceRocket was bought out by someone - so perhaps that will mean new activity? We'll have to keep an eye on that...
