WordTracker’s New Free Keyword Suggestion Tool vs The Original Free Trial Option

As a follow-up to the death of Overture, WordTracker is now offering a Free Keyword Suggestion Tool. This is in addition to their original free trial offer of their paid keyword research program, and not a replacement - the free trial still exists.

At first glance the free tool looks overly simplified, and I was curious how the results would compare to the free trial option that has been around for years. Here are the links to each option if you would like to run a quick test yourself:

To use the Free Trial, you have to register with your name and email address and then click a confirmation link via email to begin the trial. From there you go through the process of several screens and frame loading to access the results.

You need to have cookies enabled to use the trial, and you are limited to a 2-hour session. After that you have to register again, but they offer unlimited use of the free trial.

The new Free Keyword Suggestion Tool is much easier. You simply click the link and have immediate access - just type in a keyword or phrase and go.

Below is a side by side comparison of the results between these two options. The free tool is on the left, the free trial on the right:

The number of searches shown in the free tool reflect the Predict column from the free trial. This is the approximate number of searches per day for that particular keyword phrase. You can click any keyword listed in the free tool to 'dig deeper', so functionality is not lost with the new tool or its simpler design.

And actually, the free tool gives you 100 results while the free trial only gives 15. Of course if you want 1000 results, misspellings, case distinction, adult filters, etc... you'll still need the full (paid) version of WordTracker..

The new Keyword Suggestion Tool is an excellent research and brainstorming tool, and much easier to use than the original free trial option. It is also much faster and more accurate than Overture's free tool was.

I've been using Wordtrackers free keyword tool lately but I didn't think to check it against the free trial. Good to know it's just as good and a whole lot easier. Thanks for doing that and sharing the results! 🙂

I wasn't even aware of this new option. Thanks Lynn! Anything that makes my life a little easier rocks in my book 😉

actually regarding free tools, another good one is keyword discovery's free search tool, I personally like the results better than word tracker.

The free tool is at http://www.keyworddiscovery.com/search.html

  4. Thank you for the link, Jeffrey. What is it about KD that you like better than WT?

The results are dramatically different, which is interesting - I assume the number of searches on KD is also per day and not per month?

I'll dig into it more - thanks again!

  5. Thanks Lynn.Once again a useful blog post.I have used the Word Tracker Free trial. But i have never used the Free keyword suggestion tool.As Overture tool is stopped and shows only the results of January 2007,I have to use this word tracker keyword suggestion tool.Let's see how it works. Thanks again Lynn.

  6. Hey Lynn,
thanks for this interesting information about the Keywordtracker tool. I tried it and I think it is a good tool, but only if you search for english keywords. For Keyword research in other languages, I prefer the Google adwords keyword tool, as it gives me much more relevant keywords.

I also wrote a blog post about how to optimize your blog posts for relevant keywords (http://marketyourstartup.com/2009/10/best-keyword-optimization-tips-your-blog/). Check it out! Comments and feedback very much appreciated!
