Cool Adsense Tips from Shoemoney

I was surfing through Digital Point today and found a cool thread by ShoeMoney in the Adsense category. It's an older thread, but recently bumped - and a great read. In his first post he outlines how you should handle your Adsense accounts and income across multiple sites when they are bringing in $100k (give or take a few thousand) collectively. You can read the entire thread here: My Tips.

It's good advice, and pretty much an outline on how you should handle your business if you are making a substantial amount of money online - whether that be through Google Adsense, or other sources. Here is just a snippet of the advice that he offers:

Don’t let one adsense account make too much money. Setup separate corporate entities and get different bank accounts/ein for each. It’s much safer to have 10 corporate entities bringing in 10k each/month then 1 bringing in 100k.

I have never had a 100k check from Google but I can’t imagine what kind of flags it would raise. I have had significantly less and I can tell you its fricking hard just to get it cashed with out a 3 week hold on it.

And further down in the same post, he says:

Everyone is targeting high paying ads and building a site around it. My business model has been to target high SEARCHED for phrases and then try to make the pay as much as possible with adsense. It’s a very interesting game trying to balance keyword density for traffic and keyword density for profit.

He goes on to share even more tips, with other members piping in with their own thoughts and questions. There are over 300 posts in this thread... and it's a good one if you have the time to read (or at least scan) through it.

On Page 3 he goes into duplicating your success by expanding on your niche. Further down on that same page he talks about diversity and having multiple sources of income. About Adsense, just one of his sources, he says:

Adsense: This is the cowboy market. Its fun and profitable but TONS of volitility. Sure you can make 5480$/day and be on the road to 2 million a year for the month of January but then what happens in feb when you dip down to 1200$ a day. It makes you want to change your entire website... but then is it your website that needs changing or did the market flux... or was it that change you made 2 weeks ago in the global header that is drawing less paying ads. THIS WILL DRIVE YOU INSANE!

He makes some great points in that post about various e-business models. He also talks some throughout the thread about how to manage it all, about taking on partners, dropshipping and selling physical products etc. In addition to all of the great pointers, it's a very encouraging read from a successful one-man-show kinda guy that is running his operation from a home office.

I had the opportunity to meet Shoemoney in Boston, by the way. He's down to earth, approachable - obviously genuine. I was a fan of his blog before Pubcon, but even more so since then. He writes great stuff. Definitely add this one to your reader if you havent already: Shoemoney.com 😉

Back to the thread - there were some good questions posted on Page 4, specifically about how to manage multiple websites. One guy asked "With 100's of sites to manage, how do you have enough hours in the day to make sure that each one is positioned on the SERPs. Things like forum posts, link building, etc." and others chimed in with comments about just trying to keep up with 8 or 10 sites... much less 10x that.

By this time I was hooked, and hoping Shoemoney would give some insight on how he handles this. Outsourcing? Automation? So I kept reading...

He talked a bit about the CMS he uses, about cross promoting related sites, etc. And then on Page 7 he shares when you should pay for directory inclusion, and when you shouldnt. That in itself was a great tip - something that should be obvious, but not something I would have considered specifically until he brought it up.

I continued reading - curious if Shoemoney would elaborate on site management or traffic generation - and ran into an excellent post by TooHappy on Page 9:

Let me emphasize the secrecy part! Do not let anyone know you’re making money, no matter how much it is. You could be making a $100 a month and people will turn it into $100 per day. No one will appreciate the years of hard work you put into your sites and likely view your income as easy money. It’s just not fair that you make money when they have to work so hard…

Open a SEP and max it out every year! Even if your employer contributes to another retirement plan, open a SEP.

Never let up! That is good advice, do not stop, keep going. If you are not going to bed exhausted from creating content and / or starting sites, then you are not doing enough.

Read the digital point forums! There are bigger forums, but digital point is by far the most concise and open forum on the net.

Resist the urge to buy crap! Just yesterday I saw a gold chain with a dollar sign for a great price, and resisted It’s hard, but resist the trap! Pay off your debt, put money into your retirement, build an emergency fund and then play with the leftover.

This could all stop tomorrow, if it does, will you have taken steps to change your life!

I had to give her a little rep for that post - great stuff there 😉 Rep, by the way, is "reputation" and you can 'give points' towards any members reputation. It's a way of letting the members 'vote' for other members that they appreciate at the forum.

You can skip Page 10 of the thread, by the way - just random posts there. Page 11 does have a few good posts on traffic, keywords & optimization. But you can basically stop there (it currently goes on for 16 pages). He doesnt really go into any detail about how he manages all of those sites (other than hiring someone to do order processing & shipping on physical products) or the various ways that he drives traffic to them.

Regardless, it was an excellent thread. You can consider this your cliffnotes, or use it as a guide to check out the highlights 😉

I'd love to hear what you thought - especially of the original post!

Best,
