Depending on the types of sites that you manage, you may notice seasonal trends for sales and traffic throughout the year. For me, the 'down time' has always been during the summer months, and the sales and traffic tend to increase dramatically from August to March.
Of course, if you have a Vacation or Bikini site, you may notice your site activity increases during the summer months. If you have a Christmas site, you probably find that traffic drops off to nothing by January.
That's not to say that you wont have traffic and sales throughout the year, but after a few years you have probably noticed a pattern of seasonal highs and lows in the niches that you work in.
With my dart site (CorkitUp.com), sales are generally best during the fall and winter months - still steady but tapering off in spring. There are very few summer leagues, and league starts back up in the fall. So you have Fall League, Spring League and Christmas shopping of course.
Internet Marketing is another of those markets that tends to kick back into high gear each Fall after a somewhat quiet summer. I would have to assume that most people are busy enjoying the summer weather and vacations... and that people are more likely to be online and in 'work mode' once the children go back to school and the weather is a bit cooler.
Too, people realize that holiday shopping is around the corner and work hard to capitalize on that major increase in sales and traffic online during the last quarter of the year. 😉
The first of August marks a turning point for all Internet Marketers. It's time to get to work on any holiday projects, beef up your content and sales copy, dust the cobwebs off of niche sites you left sitting all year, make sure you are communicating regularly with your subscribers and readers, and add any new products or options to your site that may increase sales.
Advertisers will advertise more heavily (and more competitively) during the holiday shopping season, so Adsense revenue will increase for publishers as well. Sales across the web will increase over the next few months, lining the pockets of merchants and affiliate marketers. Activity will increase on message boards and discussion forums as people come online looking for ways to capitalize on the big shopping season.
Whatever you need to do to get your websites ready, NOW is the time to do it. I've been busily working on updating products on affiliate sites, expanding current sites, adding new content and getting new links.
Today is a good day to analyze your websites and put together an Action Plan to increase your income potential. It's the beginning of August, and the beginning of the best sales season for most online marketers.

For sure, August is the best month of the year from the shopping point of view. And a good opportunity for the Internet shopping to flourish, too. Many people prefer this kind of commerce nowadays, so take care making them your clients. Good luck!
Lynn, thanks for the reminder. I've had a couple of holiday period domains aging and it's time I started getting them ready.
So many products to sell, so little time.
