31GYL Day 25: Using Petitions for Viral Traffic

It’s Day 25 in our Growing Your List challenge and we are in the Viral Marketing section of the guide. Today’s suggestion is another interesting one I wouldn't have come up with on my own: using petitions to grow your mailing list.

For Day 25, refer to pages 59-62 in the free
31 Day Guide to Growing Your List

"Petitions have the potential to go viral simply because the issues surrounding petitions are often emotionally charged. People sign them and pass them to their friends to sign them... especially if the issue is very important to them." -page 59

There are some creative suggestions in the guide, and it's free to download if you haven't already, so be sure to check those pages out and familiarize yourself with the ideas and options they suggested...

Petitions could work very well in certain niches: pet, health, political, parenting - even foodies. The key is to stay on top of "hot topics" in your niche and jump on the opportunity from the start.

It may be a little more difficult to come up with ideas in other niches, but it can definitely be done. Let's take Internet Marketing for example. Going by the heated conversation in the comment section of in yesterday's post, I might start a petition for Internet Marketing Integrity. 🙂 LOL. That's actually not a bad idea...

Anyway, do check out the pages for today's list-building task as there are some good ideas there. Including a tip for finding scripts & apps to run a petition. Just like using a quiz, you'll want to offer your list to them with both grace and relevance. And of course, segment those petition-based subscribers.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this strategy! 😉

Best,

It would be tough to get a petition to go viral in a lot of niches. I'm going to spend some time thinking about a way to make this happen for the "Make Money Online" niche!

I agree Graham, just seems like so much competition out there for us newbies in the "internet marketing" niche.

    • It IS competitive unless you have an edge or an angle that helps you stand out. Generally that means success in a specific strategy or model so you can use things like proof, case studies, etc to teach others.

  3. I'd totally sign your petition for Internet marketing integrity - now there’s a niche worth exploiting! 😉
