High-Converting Opt-In Design (Proof)

Last week I told you about Optin Design, the new site by my friend Kidino where you can get 2 free high-converting squeeze pages...

If you click the report cover to the right, you can download a case study about these designs and how one user increased his opt-in rates by 50.2%

Look over to the right, in the sidebar here at ClickNewz, and you'll see that I am now using one of Kidino's optin designs myself ->

If you didnt notice it before, there was a drab grey plain jane sign-up form over there. Now you see an eye-catching super cool jazzy box that makes you want to subscribe to ClickNewz by email πŸ˜‰

I downloaded the 2 free templates that Kidino offered. I read the Case Study he conducted. And I took one look at the price tag ($37?! Sweet!) and decided to order the whole package of designs.

I am NOT a designer. One look at my choice in curtains would tell you that! And even if I were, I dont think I could pass up 120 variations of Web 2.0 graphics & designs for under 40 bucks. Compare that to the time involved in designing them yourself, buying templates individually, or outsourcing new designs for each site or optin form.

A no-brainer, I know πŸ˜‰

But that wasnt the only thing that sold me on Kidino's new designs. Like I said, last week I mentioned it here on my blog. A few days later I shared the freebie offer with my newsletter subscribers. And both times, there was a phenomenal response!

I am an affiliate for Optin Designs of course (this is my link), so I was able to track the number of people who signed up to download the squeeze pages on my recommendation.

Of course, Kidino is using one of his own designs on the sign-up page... and I can tell you firsthand that it has an awesome conversion rate!

My drab plain jane grey sign-up box did not.

As you probably know by now, I'm a complete stats junkie. And those stats impressed me! There's nothing I love better than to test and track, tweak, then test and track some more.

I should also tell you that I place a high priority on list-building. After 10 years in business online, I have learned that having a mailing list is one of the biggest assets to any eBiz. It doesnt matter what kind of web presence you have - you need a list, and you need to keep that list happy.

Here on ClickNewz, the mailing list is automated by Aweber. I dont send out very many personal notes and I dont send out promotions. Aweber takes the RSS Feed and converts it into a nicely formatted HTML email that contains the latest updates from ClickNewz - and then emails that out to people who have requested it.

The option is called Feed Broadcaster (free trial). It rocks πŸ˜‰

I have been blogging on this domain for about a year and a half now I believe. Traffic really spiked around the one-year mark, and is currently holding steady at about 12,000 unique visitors per month (25-30k actual visitors).

Guess how many active subscribers I have? 385 πŸ˜†

Of course, that doesnt include RSS subscribers, or those that subscribe to comments by email. But its still a very low number. Here is an actual graph from Aweber that shows you my email subscription stats here at ClickNewz:

Pretty sad, eh? πŸ˜‰

As you can see in the graph, my traffic spike hit around April of this year. There's a nice little pattern of increase from there forward. The big spike in subscribers that you see in August 2007 was during the launch of my Fast Cash Strategy. This post: The Secret Is Out! being the culprit.

There are two great tips there if you're reading between the lines: More traffic equals more subscribers. And a little incentive can go a long way.

But even with all of the right strategies in place, and the best of marketing plans, you can always stand to increase your opt-in rate. That means the number of visitors that sign up for your mailing list, of course - which should be your primary goal.

So there you have it - all of the great reasons why 37 bucks was an amazing offer, why I decided to test out these cool new Web 2.0 designs, and the great Case Study that got me excited about growing my own weak list into the thriving subscriber base it should be...

I know quite a few of you downloaded the free squeeze pages from this design set. I'd love to hear how you are using them and the results you are experiencing. Any other comments are welcome also - at the very least, let me know what you think of my cool new email subscription box πŸ˜‰

  1. Hi Lynn,
Great write up (which reminds me, I need to e-mail Kidino...haven't spoken to him in a while).

I've been thinking about how using web 2.0 design tactics might help to increase the conversion rates of not only e-mail subscription, but sales when used in the sales letter design. Hmmm...got the wheels turning. πŸ™‚

On another note, I believe the new subscription box is playing havoc on your current design. View a single page entry using Firefox to get an idea. If you'd like a screen shot, let me know and I'll send it to you.

  2. Thanks for the heads-up. Working on that. Everything to do with my code (quit laughing, Paul!) and my scraping the box out of a well put together squeeze page and into a WP sidebar...

Like I said, working on it πŸ˜‰ Thanks!

  3. I believe its all fixed now πŸ˜€

Let me know if you notice any other issues! Thanks πŸ˜‰

  4. Hey, Lynn. I am sorry that the code messed up a little bit. I believed that I sent you the correction. Hmm... I need to update my other members and customers about this... Oh yea, my code too.

  5. Yay! It works!

  6. Yes, working beautifully now - thank you so much for the help! I was thinking it may be cool to offer a WordPress Widget, or at least specific instructions on how to include the cool new optin designs on a blog. Just an idea πŸ™‚

  7. Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, a great idea. Will work on that widget, the manual and update the code.

  8. AWESOME product, Kidino - and your support is second to none! Thank you πŸ˜€

Okay Lynn, thanks for the 'reminder' about the Kidino's offer sometimes ago on this blog.

I actually downloaded it too. I think this designs and email subscription you've really talked about are worth their weight in gold.

    Thanks, you really help.

  10. I ordered the package too, but do you have to have Photoshop to edit the designs? It seems I'm not able to do anything in my current programs, Serif PhotoPlus 6 or GIMP.

  11. I use PhotoShop, yes. If you have any problems, email Kidino at the support address. He is great to respond quickly and help out πŸ˜‰
