You don't necessarily have to create overly complex and highly technical products to add a nice revenue stream to your business.
There are tons of options when it comes to creating digital products - from exclusive interviews to checklists & worksheets, even. Coming up with ideas is easy. Choosing a format is easy - in fact, you can repurpose your information into multiple formats easily! Outlining the product and creating the content is easy.
The only hard part, really... is deciding to do it, committing to get it done, and seeing it through to completion. At least that's where I see most people struggle - including myself. And then there are a few technical hurdles to overcome...

Would you recommend this for newbies without a niche or website?

While you could certainly make a business model out of creating information products - as a Kindle & book publisher, through active affiliates and joint ventures, etc - personally I would recommend this to someone who is already working in a specific niche.
A good starting point is my tutorial and brainstorming exercise on Affiliate Niche Selection.

Lynn, as you know I was following Jimmy for 4 years before you ever came on my radar (at which point you had me thinking, "Where the H-E-Double Hockey Sticks have you been all my life?)" So we're talking AT LEAST 2003, and likely longer than that, when I discovered Jimmy and his expertise and compelling rags-to-riches story that's totally for real.
I have come to know him through his PRODUCTS, like this one, which captivated me from the get-go. He's always written stellar sales letters. But this one tops them all (at least all that I know about).
My first instinct was not to buy it because the only thing I felt I couldn't do with confidence was a sales letter. Then I re-read CAREFULLY the whole letter, and what I'd skimmed over before popped right out at me. It just hadn't registered that this product promised to teach how to create a $97 product IN 48 HOURS!
I'm a notorious procrastinator, but this--THIS--was something I couldn't afford to pass up, even though I gulped, HARD, at the price. It's been a long time since I invested in a product at that price point. If it had been almost anyone else I would have just clicked away. Then when Lynn came on board to promote Jimmy's product, we discussed it and I basically sold myself on iPremiumProduct.
I'm currently waiting for my transaction to clear as I write this. I'll keep you posted on my progress. How's that for accountability? I know I haven't been around here for some time. I've been focusing on fiction writing (I just published a middle-grade children's fantasy on sale at Amazon). Add to this a major life-change in my relationship status, and you can see why everything else was put on the back burner.
