I boarded my flight from Nashville to L.A. around 5pm my time. I'm headed to Australia, specifically to Melbourne to attend Ed Dale's event. It was perfect timing. I enjoyed a turkey on wheat while watching the sunset from the sky, and I'll be ready to snuggle in for a good sleep on my long flight across the ocean.
I discovered something interesting: if you "rent" a movie in iTunes, you can't watch it offline. I feel like I should have known that. :p So instead of watching my movie I finished Traffic and Trust - a new guide for affiliate marketers, and those who want to be.
I'll publish my review soon. I won't have time before my next flight, which will be boarding shortly. So I thought I'd write a quick note now instead...
I actually enjoy the longer flights. Crazy, I know. I think sometimes I enjoy the traveling as much as the destination - lol. You may have heard me mention that on the IMTW Podcast. Being in the air is peaceful. Being unplugged (from the internet, the phone, the front door even!) is peaceful. π
I imagine I seem quiet lately from your end. I've been blogging less frequently for sure. But my mind has been busy processing that humdinger of a post I wrote on happiness - and taking action on some of the thoughts it sparked.Β
Just to give you some hints, giving Chloe a temporary foster home scored under Community. This trip goes under Social. Sure it gains Career points too, but the highlight will definitely be hanging out with Jen and Leigh and other friends there.
I've been putting a lot of thought into each of the categories, and exactly how I want to balance things out going forward. So while I may have seemed quiet, the truth is... a lot of cool stuff is brewing beneath the surface. πΒ
Ed Dale puts on a great live event, by the way. From the awesome accents, Pete's super cool shoes, the Market Samurai team, quality of content... really, it's always been well worth attending. Even if it does take me two days to get there, lol.Β
Ed draws an especially cool crowd of people. I'm looking forward to good conversation, great food, meeting new people, and just seeing the sun rise and set in Melbourne (amazing!) ...Β
I packed light. Just an iPad and thongs. Ha - that's flip flops not undies π Seriously, no MacBook or video camera this trip. I'll snap plenty of pics on my Droid X though and share updates with you on both Facebook and Twitter.Β
And keep an eye out for my next post - I'll share my thoughts on Traffic and Trust...
Best,Β
p.s. Scratch what I said about renting movies in iTunes - and not being able to watch them offline. I figured it out. Yay!
You can transfer rented itunes movies to your iPod, iPhone, or computer etc and then watch them offline. It takes a bit of time to do the transfer and you have to be online for that part. Here is a tutorial: http://ipod.about.com/od/itunesmovierentals/ss/rental_iphone.htm
Thank you Carleen. I realized I missed that step - unfortunately after I left for my trip :p Lesson learned -lol. Appreciate the link!
There is a lot of good information coming out of Australia. Lynn, I hope you enjoy your conference there. I look forward to hearing what you have learned.
Australians Ed Dale and Yaro Starak are among the best spokesman for Internet Marketing. I have also recently discovered Andrew and Darryl Grant who live near Queensland. They have worked out a really good system to teach others. They are also very giving. They recently worked to help others recover from the recent floods there.
Thank you Lee. I agree. I always enjoy Ed's events - great folks here. Not to mention great weather! π Having a great time so far. We're just into the 2nd presentation of Day 1 now (it's Friday morning here)...
Funny how things turn around. I've got 4 kids and dream of the day when my wife and I can take a long haul flight with just a few books and enjoy the trip - but with the youngest just 5 it may be a while yet!
Enjoy Oz!
Yeah, that may be a bit much for a 5 year old... It would be great to get away when you can. Even for a quick turnaround trip like mine π I'm doing the conference & there and back in all of 6 days lol.
I am SO envious of your going to Melbourne π Ed & company's events are the best for sure - both content and people. I know you are going to have a great time.
What a fun and enlightening personal journey you are on. I applaud and support you and love hearing your updates. Can't wait to catch up in person one of these days...
Have a safe and wonderful trip!
P.S. You do know that you are a major component of that "...especially cool crowd of people", don't you?
Ah thanks Corinne π I would love to catch up in person. Hard to believe it's been almost a year now. We'll have to make plans!
Have fun in Australia. Maybe you can stop by the Flippa headquarters and take some pics of (Luke?) Andrew and Matt.
Lol.
I thought they may be here. I'll have to see. I'm only here for a few days, just for the conference, then heading back on Monday morning...
Hi Lynn, Hope you enjoy Australia and If you -somehow are thinking to come to Sydney- I will be greatfull to Show you around !!!
Thanks Carlos! I'm just in Melbourne this time, and only for a few days. The weather is fabulous this trip!! Enjoying the conference too of course π
Have a good trip. π
Long plane rides are painful for me, because I have long legs. π
LOL I think they are painful for most people! I had a great flight in luckily. Already looking to my flight home, but don't want to rush the fun weekend!
I've read the Traffic and Trust and this phrase catches my attention "Rome Wasn't Built in a Day". Makes me think that I should not hurry on what I am doing for our website. I have been depressed marketing my own site.
You're like the first and only person that I know that enjoy long flights. The longest one I've been in is a 3 hour flight and I swear, it's like sitting on coal.
I also didn't know that I have to be online before I get to watch rented movies on iTunes. HHmm...It defeats the purpose of renting movie in my opinion especially since I'd like to watch it when I don't have a connection and I have nothing else to do.
By the way, great choice on packing light! iPad and thongs!
If you have time, you must go down to the Docklands, they have really done a lot with it in recent years.
Have a great trip, Lynn! I haven't been on a plane in quite a long time. I used to love flying, not so sure anymore:-) But I imagine Australia is beautiful.
Hmm, looks like you're already having some fun between your flights.. can't wait to hear more re 'traffic and trust' Keep us posted.
Wish I could've been there π But I've now bought all the sessions to download π
I qualified as a coach some years ago, and one of the most important things I got from the trainings was to create balance in ones life - if we concentrate on one or 2 areas, our lives can take a real nose-dive, so thank you for the reminder. I too am doing something for Community, and it is one of the most satisfying things I have ever done.
