I received this notice on MySpace this morning from Michel Fortin:
Did you read my latest blog post? It contains a new report about the future of online copy and marketing using Web 2.0, and how salesletters online are dying.
(It's filled with test results, actual statistics and research, and some ideas about where we're heading.)
The post is entitled "Death of the Salesletter" and it's causing quite a stir on the Internet. There's no hype, no promotion or no covert sales pitch at all. I wrote it for fun, and to get it off my chest.
You can grab a copy (it's a free download), and join the discussion, at:

I always wonder how much the IM community know about how to build a web 2.0 site yet. I feel we are better at monetizing traffic on these established web 2.0 site.

I don't think they really know. Because most people (not all, but most) IMers learn marketing from the direct mail or direct marketing "gurus." Which is good, and Web 1.0 was perfect for it, because it's a digital form of direct mail marketing.
But I have seen some examples. I just think that the number will eventually grow. As I said in my report, tests show that we've reached a critical mass, if you will. And you will start to see things change, albeit slowly.
And don't forget, most IMers sell information, not real products. Here's a cool example of a Web 2.0 site I came across yesterday: http://www.dna11.com/
