I’m Blogging With John Chow – Are You?

I'm studying Blogging with John Chow at the moment, which is a brand new course that just came out this week. Initially, more out of curiosity than anything. This man is a total machine when it comes to making a killing with blogs.

If you're not familiar with John Chow (you've been hiding under a rock??) he is a highly successful Professional Blogger, a Super Affiliate, he dominates multiple sales Leaderboards - and he obviously does insanely well with his blog.

Here's a harsh confession: I don't actually like John Chow as a person. And to be fair, I don't know him that well. I made an effort to introduce myself when I ran into him at an event, but offline and online both - I find him to be a bit arrogant and abrasive. Just my personal opinion. πŸ˜‰ Still, I'm studying his newly-released blueprint...

I'm actually studying it on my iPad, which you can see is open next to my laptop here on my desk. That makes it easy to flip through to the topics I'm most interested in right now, while I'm working on them, or grab my iPad and study on the go:

Personality conflicts aside, the man obviously knows what he's doing.

Setting up a blog is easy. Getting the amount of traffic, the number of subscribers, and reaching the income level that John has with his own blog... well, wouldn't we ALL like to know exactly what he's doing and how!

Why Did I Order It?

Because it's super cheap at only $37, and I know from experience that a single tip or resource will add zeros to that number in terms of ROI (return on investment).

It's a no-brainer at that price to "pick the brain" of another successful blogger.

And of course because I knew it would be crossing your screen, and I wanted to give it a proper review and let you know whether it's truly worth your time...

What Do I Think Of It?

First, I really like the way it's organized and formatted. It makes it very easy to go through each module in order, from start to finish, or to skip around to topics that interest you most - depending on where you are with your own blog, or what you're focusing on at the moment. I can also log in from anywhere (on any device) and the videos included in some of the modules play on my iPad - which is nice.

Here's a screen shot from inside my account. The modules are organized across the top of the page, but also outlined down the right side - which makes it very easy to browse through topics of interest:

Not only do you get an exclusive inside look at the success of John Chow and his blog, it's also full of creative ideas and practical advice. I jumped straight to the sections on Advertising and Linking Strategies because I was particularly interested in his strategies on those two topics.

Some of the sections are not in-depth enough for my taste, but overall it was a great investment. Like I said above, the ROI on just one resource or idea is ridiculous. And I certainly got that out of it, just on my first browse through the course!

A really cool feature is the 30 Day Action Plan. Interestingly, it doesn't let you jump ahead past week one, LOL. The next week's planner becomes available your second week. It's laid out very nicely though. It gives you a goal for the day, why you should do it, and a very detailed list of tasks to do.

This is a very nice Simple Checklist for someone just starting out, and a great module to walk through to make sure you have everything covered if you already have a blog. Definitely my favorite feature - I love checklists. πŸ˜€

I'm constantly watching and learning from the top bloggers, across a variety of niches. And John Chow is one of those at the top...

At only $37 it's definitely worth adding to your e-library.

According to the sales page (screen shot snagged below) it won't be this price for long, so you'll want to sign up quick while it's still cheap...

Best,

p.s. I'd love to hear what YOU think of it, or what your biggest take-away was after you've had a chance to browse through the training modules...

  1. Hi Lynn,
Thanks for the Review. I feel similar when it comes to him, but thought it was just me πŸ˜‰ i will have a close Look at his course, i'm looking for something about Blog launching, Hope that's included

  2. I've just started to go through his course and I like it so far. He does have a few things out of order though. Like "choosing a theme" really should be before"activate that blog".

  3. Not a big fan of John Chow but the price is really tempting !

  4. Kate Luella says

oh no, not another shiny new object!! lol

  5. I agree with Kate ... another shiny object to distract me. I am tempted by your review and the price, but I have to break the habit of learning and start doing. But thanks for the information.

And I guess I was under a rock, because I had never heard of John Chow. πŸ™‚

    Shawn

  6. LOL Shawn πŸ˜€

Definitely consider what is best for YOU and what you are working on specifically. I've always been curious at how he has grown his blog so fast, what he charges for advertising and how he monetizes, and his linking strategies, etc - so it was well worth it for me considering my interest.

I do love the 30 Day Action Plan / Blogging Checklist - definitely my favorite feature!

  7. I'm very interested in this offer from John Chow. This guy for a fact is making big bucks its cool that he is sharing tips with the public.

I'm sure it will be some affiliate based product. Dude blasts emails like a broke sprinkler.

    Here's a question.
Which one would you rather have? A profitable authority blog or an affiliate page?

PS: Like the new design definitely not something I have seen anywhere else. Comes off like an old school Visual Basic program.

    • Hi Jacko,

I'm not sure I understand your question - authority blog vs affiliate page. Do you mean an HTML based affiliate website vs a blog? Most blogs I know rely on affiliate marketing as a source of revenue...

As for the product, I'm not seeing any affiliate links in it yet - though there were plenty of opportunities!

  8. Lynn

Does this work with existing websites, or do we have to start new ones?

    Cheers

    Rosemary

    • Obviously all of my blogs are already established. I'm always studying the success and methods of other bloggers though. But it's great for someone just starting out as well because it walks through all the elements you need when setting up your first blog.

  9. Thanks Lynn. I dont want to establish any more blogs either.

  10. Hello Lynn

I used to read John Chow's blog many moons ago when he used to make a lot of review posts, and charge a few hundred dollars for each one.

Back then I think a lot of his success was because of his controversial posts. I may have to head over there and check out his blog again.

Would you say this particular course was aimed towards a newbie - or would a seasoned marketer get some us out of it.

  11. It is good to learn from an experienced person in that field. We get to know the important dos and don't s when it comes to blogging. However, I a bit amazed to know that you do not like him as a person and still making use of his guidelines to learn the best about blogging. I guess I will be hesitant to do that.

  12. Hi Lynn, thanks for quality information, blogging with john chow looks like a great e-book for beginners and even for experienced bloggers. I just wondering one thing, is it one time payment or recurring membership? Because I can see both information on different sides.

  13. Hi Lynn,

I have purchased the membership and the content is good but I can not download any materials from Blogging Done For You section. Could you please tell me why I can't download anything from there?

  14. Hi Lynn. First of all thank you for this in depth review. I’m planning on buying this program, but since I’m completely new to websites and blogging, I wanted to know if this program is suited for beginners like me? Can you elaborate on that? Thanks! Yara

  15. Bradley Anderson says

I've never met John Chow, but in all the videos I've seen of him he's seems to be very personable. o.O Personality quirks aside, though, I have to agree with you, Lynn, that John Chow is a beast of blogger! Based on the years I've followed him, and then your detailed review, I decided to take the plunge and see if there were any tidbits inside his newest product for us middle-of-the-road bloggers.

I have to say I'm very happy with my purchase. As yos mentioned, it's laid out very well, very easy to navigate. Although it's definitely laid out more for beginners, I have already learned a number of new things that I have already started implementing on some of my own blogs.

Like most products of a similar nature, however, the one HUGE component that isn't covered is HOW he built his traffic. Anyone who has done this for any period of time knows that "Build it... and they will come" is total B.S.

But that's okay, because my favorite Traffic Queen just put out a new product a few months ago that should complement this course quite nicely. All in all, I agree it's worth every penny. This is NOT just another shiny new object, that's for sure.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts in this review, Lynn. I'm not sure if I would have broke down and bought it or not had I not come across your review a few weeks back.
