I'm a big fan of 2nd Tier affiliate commissions. That basically means that I earn a percentage of the sales on any affiliate that I refer into a particular program. Let's take NetShops for example - it's an affiliate network that I use myself, earning 10-12% per sale. Plus I earn 10% on any affiliate I refer to them. (10% of the commission that they earn, that is)
2nd-Tier commissions are a great source for Passive Income. You are basically earning money for work that someone else is doing. Imagine referring just 10 super affiliates into a program. From that point forward you would earn commission on all of their sales, for the life of their site.
Since I am generally using the same network or program myself, it sometimes works out that we will have similar or related affiliate sites. It's rare that these would ever be direct competition to my own sites, as everyone develops their affiliate sites differently and with their own unique ideas or micro-niches in mind.
Because of this, it benefits me to link to these sites that belong to my friends. Not only are they relevant outbound links on my own pages, but I get paid on those links for the life of our sites (through 2nd tier commissions on every sale that they make).
It's my own little version of 'Paid Text Links' 😉
It's a great little 'affiliate networking' concept that benefits everyone involved.

Hi Lynn,
I know this is an old post, but when you submitted it, was it around the time you were just starting out with ClickNewz?
