Part EIGHT of the 10 Ways to Make Money Online Series
The 8th method that Jimmy D. Brown suggests to make money online is to "Tweak & Flip Info Products". Youβll find this topic on pages 23-24 in your PDF.
In Chapter 1, we talked about creating info products. Chapter 8 is similar, except that you don't have to actually write your own ebook content from scratch.
Jimmy suggests finding content with private label rights, which we generally refer to as PLR content.
PLR comes in all formats - audio, video, reports, ebooks, articles, e-courses, etc. Private label rights give you the option to modify the product, change the format, edit it in any way you like - and claim authorship on the final product.
This opens up A LOT of opportunity!
Even though 20, 200 or even 500 people might have the rights to this same product, very few of them will actually take any action. Of those that take action, most will simply use the PLOR product as-is, without any modifications whatsoever.
This is so true. How many of you have PLR content on your hard drive right now that you have never done anything with? Me too - guilty as charged! And we're not alone. Most people download it and forget it. In fact, that's true with most things when it comes to Internet Marketing. The very small percentage of people who actually take action are the ones making money online. Period.
All you have to do is invest an hour or so of your time to modify the product, thereby creating a new and unique product. Then you can change the title, create a new ecover graphic and tweak the sales letter!
It really is this ^ simple.
The great thing about PLR is the number of options that you have. You can use print PLR to create audio or video products. You can use a series of PLR articles to create a report or ebook. You can break a PLR ebook or report up into a series and use it in your autoresponder messages. That's the beauty of PLR.
I recently bought several PLR packages from a variety of sellers, all on the same topic. I ended up with articles, reports, e-courses and even some videos. My goal is to take all of that PLR and combine it into one very complete ebook on the topic. There will also be plenty of material left over for blog posts, articles and an autoresponder series to complete the package to sell this ebook.
I have less than $100 invested for something that can earn thousands, and continue to earn on auto-pilot for years to come...
Quick Tip: You don't even have to rework the product yourself! Visit elance or a similar site to find a competent freelancer willing to rewrite and tweak PLR content. Some will do it for just a few pennies per word.
Outsourcing the tweaks is a great idea, especially if you're already super busy - or you just know you'll never get around to it yourself. While you can find inexpensive freelancers at some of the popular freelancing sites, I prefer to work with people I know. I usually find them through my forum, my peer network, or through Twitter.
That's my personal preference, though I've heard a lot of great success stories from people who used a site like elance.com or rentacoder.com.
Whatever you invest in rewrites, editing, or even cover graphics & sales page design, it is a drop in the bucket compared to what you can earn long-term with the finished product.
Fast and Easy!
It could take you weeks, or even months, to create your own product from scratch. Using PLR, you could easily have your own product ready to sell in a few short days.
Whether you're creating short reports, ebooks, or any kind of info product for your market, consider using PLR content as your base. It's much easier to modify existing content than to start out staring at a blank page with the pressure to write something brilliant!
If you're not sure where to find good, quality PLR content try these two sources as a start:

Interesting concept. I have lots of PLR stuff sitting on my computer that I've never even got to, let alone thought about what to do with it. I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable using someone else's words and saying they were mine, but getting ideas from the stuff and putting something together,... possibly. Thanks.
I've used both PLR and Public Domain content in the past. If you edit the content at all, you ARE the author of the finished product. Put out something you don't mind to put your name on - which is what we'd all do anyway.
To be honest, there's nothing very new or unique. Only a new spin, or a new voice - and the ability to reach the market with it. π
I also work in other niches where I use pen names, and I don't have a problem creating a great product out of PLR content... and putting my pen name on it as the author. Get creative, do some major editing, whatever makes you feel comfortable - as long as you take action.
Lynn,
Exactly my thought (and what I do) on PLR products. Take a product and make it your own. Most PLR products can use a lot of improvement. Take them, re work them, combine similar products and there is nothing that says you have to use the LP templates provided with the product.
As far as putting your name on it. You don't have to put literally your name to it. This is why a simple DBA or even go as far as a LLC. The more I research on the matter of LLCs, the more I find it appealing in the matter of building and selling "start-ups" ,much the same as "flipping" a website, only it is much more in depth than flipping a website.
I hope everyone is having a great weekend!
A lot of people boo PLR, and yes there are downsides, but if you use it the way it was meant to be used it can be very profitable for you.
Creating a product from scratch is a lot of work, and it's also pretty expensive to outsource. So PLR is perfect when you're looking to put out a new product quickly and inexpensively. Take the time to edit the content, make it yours, and even have a new ecover made so it looks different.
I've seen a lot of my members create new graphics, rename the product, and change the sales letter...and wow, I wouldn't even know it was the same. Those are simple and inexpensive things to do, and they've got a unique product to sell to their market.
Exactly! There's also the concept of "reframing". Take a generic weight loss report, and reframe it to reach a specific sub-niche, such as: weight loss for teens, weight loss for couples, etc.
I don't use PLR myself, but once in a blue moon, I will buy a package. I find it helps spark ideas for new articles or reports - on the rare occasions I'm "stuck" on a subject(or new to it, about to begin heavy primary research).
That being said, I think customizing PLR into fresh, unique content is a real art.
I agree - but I find it much easier than starting with a blank page. For some reason re-writing is much more simple than writing from scratch!
I often use PLR products as a starting point. I rework them for a specific subniche or add content to make it more valuable.
I am learning new ways to make money online. As I focus on affiliate marketing, I can in the future come up with my own products so easily. This is a great lesson of one starting out.

Hello,
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question but.. I was listening to you on IMTW and you said something that peaked my interest.
You said "It's the same stuff that I've been doing quietly for 5 years. While everyone else is looking for a way out of the work I've been just simply doing the work."
My question is with all of the internet marketing products out there mudding up the waters where do you go to find out exactly what "the work" is? (If your plan is to become an affiliate marketer)
Hey Steve,
A whole 'nother topic! π You should stop by my forum and post that question. It would make for a great discussion, and I'm sure the other affiliate marketers in my group will pitch in as well:

PLR may not be for everyone, that's a given. I say don't knock it till you try it! If you don't have your own report or info-product yet, you can easily re-write or re-frame PLR content, or you can write your own. If you struggle writing your own, see: http://www.clicknewz.com/writereports.htm
That is exactly what got ME started creating reports, and a whole new stream of passive income that has been rolling for several years now very nicely.
Also see the first method Jimmy shared in this series:

Whichever route you go, just do it! π
I need to put this plan into action as I have stacks of PLR cluttering up my hard drive. i really like the idea of buying up lots of formats in the same niche and then making something.
Of course I wish I hadn't read this now as I'm tempted by the weekend offer... AARRGGHH
LOL - It really is a great deal. Nicole's EasyPLR is great stuff too, and she has PLR for a variety of niches. Not just IM.
I heard about this method before but still don't know the flow. Maybe I should find time learning it. It's definitely another great opportunity to earn money online.
There seems to be many more PLR offers for the internet marketing niche (if you can call it a niche) than there are for other niches. The ones I have been offered in the health niche have not been very good and I would have to rewrite them so much that it hardly seems worth trying.
The only thing they have been useful for is to get a few ideas from.
I'll have a look at the places you mention. Perhaps I have not found quality PLR yet.
Try the EasyPLR link - and be sure to use the coupon code if you find what you're looking for. You can also hire out the writing, or the rewrite for PLR, on sites like elance.com.
I can't bring myself to use PLR content or eBooks. Maybe it's because I'm a writer. I am thinking about writing PLR content though because so many take to it.
Let us know if you decide to do that π
I have been writing for a long time now but I have never thought I could do minor editing on somebody's work and then put my name on it.
Makes writing ebooks easier for me.
Thank you for being resourceful!
If I was to concentrate on writing e-books only, how profitable do you think that can be?
Which areas do you would be great to write e-books on because I think almost everyone is now writing e-books? π
Thanks

Make sure you upload your ebooks to free pdf search engines like http://www.terapdf.com and http://www.pdffact.com if you are planning to sell them for free.
That is a good point you make, Lynn, that most people will never use the PLR they buy. It's amazing that it happens so often, but as you, I'm guilty of it too!
Then, if you buy PLR that limits how many are sold, you really can have a very unique product with just a little work:-)
