Coffee Break with Lynn Terry: “Success Secret”

I've been home for just over 36 hours, and have finally had time to rest up and reflect a bit on the success of my trip.

I had a great photographer by my side, so many of you got to see Australia through my eyes along the way.

The photos were taken by Paul Young, who is also the official videographer for Ed Dale. The photo to the right was taken at Fuel, a coffee shop on the north side of Melbourne, where we met up with Ed for a quick recording and a proper goodbye before I left Australia...

You'll find Paul as @PaulYoung on Twitter, and as jaxxon33 on both YouTube and Flickr. We met at Ed's Over the Edge 2 event in Orlando Florida and have been brainstorming and working together since.

If you've never met Ed Dale in person, definitely make it a point 😉 . We first met in person at Stompernet Live6 in August, just after his 30DC promotion where I was one of the top 3 to refer new members into the challenge.

Two months later he invited me to the OTE2 event in Orlando, and by November I was co-hosting the Internet Marketing This Week podcast alongside Ed, Paul Colligan & Michelle MacPhearson - who I also had the pleasure of meeting in person (finally!) in Orlando. Paul and I had met at both StomperNet events, but I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with him recently at my Atlanta meetup.

These connections are the very reason that I travel and attend events like I do.

Every single meetup or event has presented valuable opportunities and connections. While I was in Australia for example, I attended a meetup in Melbourne where I met Kathy Baker. What started out as a friendly conversation quickly shifted to shared business interests - and an opportunity to work together.

In addition to the joint venture & co-promotion opportunities, I always walk away from these meets with creative ideas, new resources and a fresh dose of inspiration. It helps tremendously to see what solutions other people are using and how they are using them.

I've had my eye on the Livescribe Smartpen since Ed mentioned it by the way, so I picked his brain about it over breakfast on Wednesday. Now that I'm back home & settled in, I'm placing my order 😀 . Cant wait!!

If you're newer to your niche then you might be thinking that my super affiliate status, or my 12 years in business, gives me an advantage with networking that you dont have. That may be true to some extent, but I've actually been leveraging market strengths since my very first day in business - and I dont mind saying that it has been the secret to my success all along.

The key is to have something to offer, to bring something to the table.

My first business was an electronics shop, and we offered computer monitor repair and computer training - back when no one else did. Instead of trying to approach the market as the no-name that we were, we leveraged the success of others who were working that same market: local computer stores. Within that first year, every single local computer store was referring new customers to us.

Ironically we sold and repaired computers as well, but we were smart enough to focus on service-based solutions that filled an immediate need in the market. Solutions our competitors were not yet offering. And when they did start offering them... they outsourced them to us.

This was the result of building rapport, and building a reputation. Both with the target market, and with the market leaders.

When you are doing market research to start a new business in a particular niche, you research your markets wants and needs. You also want to research your competitors so that you know their strengths - and their weaknesses. Then you simply position yourself in the market in such a way that you can capitalize on both while meeting the needs of your market.

Its much the same with Internet Marketing, regardless of your niche. It's all about how you position yourself. You'll find that you gain much more ground when you network, take on partners, outsource, and work alongside other market leaders in your niche.

I accomplished a lot of that on my trip to Australia - met with JV partners, made new connections, sealed some deals - and did quite a bit of brainstorming.

Of course, I made time to enjoy Australia as well 😉

Events, trips & meetups are great and have always paid for themselves in the long run. But even if you prefer to work strictly online, make connections and look at ways you can gain leverage in your market.

By the way, if you havent already read my Fast Cash Strategy now is a good time to grab a copy. You can still get it for only ten bucks - and you'll also get a bonus report that teaches you specific ways to leverage the power of your competition.

Like I said, this has been the secret to my ongoing success from day one. Start looking at ways you can reach out, and take advantage of all the untapped opportunity in your market!

Best,

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

This is a way to do business. I try to make as much contacts as I can where every I go.
I hope next year I can go to Australia and meet you and some more contacts.

  2. Yeah, branding is important and whoever manage to be the first establish themselves will usually be the role model.

  3. Hey Lynn!

Actually I remembered wanting to get the report you are offering before and I think I'm going to get it after the week end. 🙂

The salesletter doesn't really tell, but what does the report cover, or what does it solve? 🙂

I met you and Ed Dale in Atlanta. You are both very personable and easy to talk with.

I was thoroughly impressed with Ed's warmth and the fact that he really does want to help everyone he can.

Hope to see you both again.

I've enjoyed following you on your trip to Australia and seeing the video and photos. Hopefully one day I'll get to meet you, Ed and many others in person as well.

You bring up good points about attending events. While working online is great, I agree, there's great advantages to personal meet-ups. 😉

    Thanks Lynn!

  9. Hey Lynn!

It was so great meeting you and having the opportunity to chat with you at the 30DC Melbourne MeetUp Xmas Party @ Docklands, during your working holiday trip to Australia 😉

I totally agree with the “values” you put forward of “service mentality” and providing “value added” to others.

Sure, we can all do it on our own. But we achieve SO much more when we work with and collaborate with others.

Not only for ourselves, and our own enjoyment and rewards, but also for the benefits we can create and give to others, grows exponentially…

Looking forward to our interview soon.

And looking forward to your next return trip to Australia, and catching up with you again.

    Cheers

    Lynn,

I recently began following ClickNews when doing research for potential Joint Venture partnerships and I must say that your blog is most refreshing and offered me pause to reconsider what is possible and what is not when doing business online. I know there would be many more success stories if more online entrepreneurs followed your advice. The time and effort you provide is greatly appreciated.
    Happy Holidays,

    Buddy

As I read this post all I could think of was the Law of Attraction. Yes, you do have 12 years behind you but it is the content of that time that is part of your success.

From what I can see just from the short time I have been following you (thank you Ed Dale 30DC!) you always put out solid reliable content. You are focused and a prime example of the KLT Factor. In turn, those same things come back to you online and at meetups.

I can't image how people wouldn't gravitate toward you and want to be part of what you are doing. It is awesome that you are now able to have working vacations and enjoy such incredible success.

Glad I found you. The best part of all the cool things that are being attracted to you now is that you share them with all of us! Thanks Lynn for sharing your Success Secrets!
